LIST CRITICAL MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT SHIP


Objectives Critical Machinery And Equipment

To ensure the safety of ship operations and comply with EOHS system, it is necessary that the relevant machinery and equipment provided, and the function of the systems which mobilize such machinery and equipment are maintained properly.

In particular, those items of machinery and equipment whose failure would impair the safety of ship operations or the protection of the environment are designated as the Critical Equipment.
To identify machinery, equipment and technical system that may have unexpected operational failures and potential hazardous situations

It is therefore essential to formulate procedure for maintenance services applicable to the important equipment, and to properly manage these procedure.
These maintenance services should include the regular testing of stand-by arrangements and equipments that are not in continuous use.

Procedures Critical Machinery And Equipment

The maintenance for the critical equipments as prescribed in the ship’s manual, shall be implemented in accordance with the following standards :

  • Overhaul inspections and maintenance (preventive maintenance) shall be carried out regularly in accordance with the maker’s maintenance standards.
  • Operation checks shall be carried out once a month, use the checklist recommended.
  • For machinery and equipment in service, simple operational checks (eg. Feeling by hand, visual inspection, etc) shall be carried out everyday throughout the voyage.
  • Upon detecting signs of abnormality (sound, vibration, smell, change in temperature, etc ) investigate checks shall be carried out immediately.
  • Machinery and equipment not in service shall be checked for verification by standing it once a month.
  • The critical Equipment monthly checklist (from S-40) is to be completed and return to company for verification.
The person in charge of the critical equipment shall carry out maintenance service in accordance with makers manual and instructions.

If any sign abnormality of machinery or equipment is detected, it shall be reported to the responsible personnel in each department without delay, in order that the necessary action may be taken as soon as possible.
To enable early detection of abnormalities, special efforts shall be made by drawing trend curves of exhaust gas temperatures, bearing temperatures, load currents, etc.
The office must be informed before any shut down of the critical equipment for maintenance or repair (scheduled or unscheduled).
    
The agreed period of repair must be advised to the office and agreed. Onboard risk assessment (form S-20) shall be carried out and submitted to office before shut down. Critical equipment shall be determined from risk assessments (GBLT 0901) carried out.

  • Emergency Steering
  • Hydraulic Oil Tank Level Alarm

Safety (LSA & FFA) Critical Equipment List

The above checklist of critical equipment shall be tested as required and at least once a month. The results of the test shall be recorded in the ‘Critical Equipment Checklist’
