Inert Gas Generator

Design features & Operational procedure

  1. Operation based on the combustion of a low sulphur content file and the cleaning and drying of the exhaust gases
  2. Good combustion is essential
  3. Oxygen level controls the ratio of the air / fuel to the burner
  4. IG plant includes an inert gas generator, a scrubbing tower unit, two combustion-air blower,
  5. An effluent water seal, a fuel injection unit, an intermediate dryer unit (refrigeration type), a final dryer unit, and an instrumentation/control system
  6. Dry air/inert gas plant operation local and fully auto control mode
  7. Demister for water droplets and trapped moisture
  8. Freon dryer unit reduces dew point to 5 deg.C
  9. Absorption dryer-dual vessel desiccant dryer reduces dew point further
  10. Pressure control valve at the outlet of the dryer unit maintains constant pressure throughout the system, thus ensuring a stable flame at the generator
  11. Dew point and oxygen content of the inert gas produced are permanently monitored.
  12. Purge valve and the deliver  valve-fail safe solenoid operated acting in reverse direction
  13. Connection to the cargo piping system through two non-return valves and a spool piece

1.Preparations starting

  1. Operation schedule and procedure is determined and coordinated with persons in the engine room, CCR and deck
  2. Lubrication of all running machinery ensured
  3. Manual operational check of all system valves
  4. Power for operating equipments to be switched on
 

2.Inerting mode

  1. Pre purge operation to be confirmed
  2. Purge air and IG for predetermined interval after start is vented out
  3. Automatic ignition and main burner operation as per the automatic operation program to be verified normal
  4. Atomizing steam pressure via special super heater in the combustion chamber
  5. Oxygen content adjustment done and maintain the combustion condition-Flame colour through peep hole good indicator
  6. Absorbent type dryer and the refrigerating dryer put into operation
  7. Confirm that the operating parameters of each part are normal
  8. Main supply to deck start after dew-point temperature and the oxygen content is as per the set point and stable

3.Stopping

  1. Main selector valve from the tank or the hold change over to atmosphere
  2. Stop the adsorbent dryer and the refrigerating dryer as per the instructions
  3. Confirm that predetermined operation takes as per the programmed stop sequence. Ensure post purge and fuel cut off for IG mode
  4. Fuel to the burner cut off and the post-purge operation to be verified
