Maintenance Of  Deck Equipment

In the following, we will clean some machining equipment on the deck of the ship that we will repair and what things should be repaired on the engine on the boat deck.

Rudder Carrier Bearing

Thrust Face

Grease Lubricated Frame beneath the bearing provides the support at the    

steering deck

•  Thicker scantling and steel chocks provides the strength
•  Base of the bearing is secured by

Side Chocks

•  R C B component are “Split” to facilitate replacement
• Clearance is provided between ‘Ram Crosshead and trunnion to take up the “Rudder Drop” due to wear of rudder carrier bearing
• Grease is “Water Resistant”

Rudder Stock and Pintle

• Excessive clearance between “Sleeve and Bush” of rudder stock and pintle
• Condition of sleeve (Loose sleeve indication of water)
• Deep pitting and corrosion in the rudder stock and pintle adjacent to the stainless steel sleeve
• Slipping of the rudder stock cone coupling
• Additional check, if stainless liner fitted for “Crevice corrosion”

Anchor Winches

• Windlass cable lifter brakes
• Hydraulic or electric motor
• Anchoring equipment required by the rules
• Slipping clutches
• Mover
• Brake lining
• Foundation bolts
• Strength members
• Hydraulic system; hydraulic oil; valves; leakages

Mooring Winches

• Majority of “Automatic Mooring Winches” spur geared to improve the backward efficiency of the gear train
• Gearing and bearing totally enclosed and lubricated from oil sump
• Barrel brake fitted on longer mooring winches
• Brake shall withstand the “Breaking strength of mooring wire
• Drums
• Shifting gears
• Brake lining
