DUTIES OF THE OILER. (if applicable)

  • To receive instruction from the Second Engineer, guide and supervise subordinates, take the initiative and perform the instructed duties, and help the Second Engineer.
  • To be conversant with the qualities, experience and abilities of subordinates, to guide them, and report the essential items to the Second Engineer.
  • To decide the work allocation of subordinates in consultation with the Second Engineer.
  • Upon receiving instruction from the Second Engineer, to assign tasks appropriately, and increase efficiency and ensure safety.
  • To formulate work plans for each voyage, report to the Second Engineer and request instruction.
  • To always monitor the engine room and other location for which he is responsible, ensure that all objects are assembled and arranged efficiently, and report to the Second Engineer.
  • To make efforts to maintain accessories and tools for which he is responsible in good working order.
  • To accept and manage ship's stores, and simultaneously, use these items efficiently.
  • To perform duties related to shipboard repairs.
  • Upon receiving instruction from the Second Engineer, to carry out and guide the education and training of subordinates.
  • To ensure that subordinates are familiar with all orders and rules.
  • To perform engine watch and anchor watch, and follow orders of the designated duty engineer officer.
  • To be familiar with the handling of various machinery and equipment for which he is responsible and with the arrangement of tanks and pipe valves; to monitor and maintain these items of equipment.
  • To be familiar with the machinery and equipment entrusted to his charge by the duty Engineer, and to help the responsible engineer in the maintenance of machinery and equipment.
  • To report to the designated duty engineer officer or to the responsible engineer upon detecting a deficiency in machinery or equipment under his charge.
  • To keep ready all tools necessary for various jobs, and to improve work efficiency.
  • To perform work instructed by superiors.
